The Oxford Wine Club has been providing quality wine tastings for its members since May 1997. There are now 120 members.
The Club exists to enable its members (of which there are now 120) to increase their knowledge and appreciation of wine, whether beginners or passionate wine enthusiasts. The Club therefore seeks to recruit people who have already acquired a basic knowledge in wine, such as that gained by attending an introductory wine course.
There are usually 8 or 9 tastings in each programme (from September through to June) which include high quality presentations from the producers themselves, wine merchants, wine educators and Masters of Wine. We are delighted that several Masters of Wine are closely associated with the Club:
Club President: Michael Palij MW [Winetraders (UK) Ltd]
Club Vice-Presidents: Jasper Morris MW [Berry Bros & Rudd] & Jonathan Pedley MW
Honorary Life Vice-President: Charles Garrett, Club Secretary 1997-2004. This post was created in 2004 in recognition of the amazing work that Charles has done for the Club.
Wine offers
The club is often able to negotiate significant discounts on wine purchased following club tastings and also in connection with tastings held in Oxford colleges by a variety of wine merchants. We organise collective orders thus enabling members to buy on a "by the bottle" rather than a "by the case" basis - a particular advantage for more expensive wines. Members can thus:
- buy wines that they have tasted themselves at discounted prices and in limited quantities
- buy wines selected for their quality and value for money by members of the club' s wine-buying group.
If you are interested in joining the Club, or would like more information, please contact the Club Secretary Karen Hyde .
