Friday 16 September 2005: A Loire experience! Food and wine matching from the Loire Valley
For the past two years Richard Kelley MW has been expanding his Loire range partly due to a personal passion for the wines of this often maligned and misunderstood area of France. His selection is now one of the most interesting and comprehensive ranges available from any British importer, offering a virtual one-stop-shop for some of the best growers available in any given appellation. We are fortunate to kick off our next programme with a complete range of styles: red/white, dry/sweet, still/sparkling to match against a selection of classic Loire dishes, all under Richard’s expert tuition.
Presenter: Richard Kelley MW, Richards of Walford, Importers of Wine, Lincolnshire

Tuesday 18 October 2005: Wines from Portugal
Danny Cameron has been a director of Raymond Reynolds Ltd for 6 years, during which time they have become the largest importers of single estate Wines from Portugal into the UK. He is also the founding and current chairman of the Association of Portuguese Wine Importers, and was the founder of The Specialist Importers Trade Tastings (SITT) which was one of the most talked about trade shows of last year. Although challenged by fickle harvests and uncertain weather, the Portuguese have concentrated their skills on producing better wine each year. We are privileged that Danny will showcase for us a range of wines from several of Portugal’s best winemakers.
Presenter: Danny Cameron, Raymond Reynolds Ltd, Wines from Portugal
Wednesday 16 November: Australia vs. Rhône test match
Our presenter/adjudicator for this tasting will be Jonathan Pedley MW who has proven to be a popular and informative presenter on his previous appearances at the Club. This time we will compare and contrast Shiraz with Syrah, Viognier with Condrieu, and an Australian Grenache-Shiraz-Mourvèdre with a Châteauneuf-du-Pape. We already have some Penfolds Grange to entice you with and hope that you’ll join us for another fun evening with Jonathan in charge!
Presenter: Jonathan Pedley MW, Wine Consultant and Club Honorary Vice-President
Monday 12 December: Call My Bluff
Come and join our illustrious President and Vice-Presidents who have agreed to take part in a wine themed Call My Bluff in the name of Christmas Spirit!
Presenters: Michael Palij MW, Jasper Morris MW and Jonathan Pedley MW.
Tuesday 24 January 2005: USA vs NZ Pinot Noir
Club Vice President Japer Morris lives in Burgundy for a good part of each year so we are delighted that he will be joining us for another tour with his favourite grape, Pinot Noir, but this time not quite on his home territory. We will take 3 pinots each from California, Oregon and New Zealand and taste them in flights of 3 (one from each at 3 different price points). In the past Jasper has so often tutored us through the importance of the topography and geology of the Côte de Nuits so don’t miss the opportunity to hear him explain the significance of the contrasting approaches to wine making found amongst these wines. It should be a truly fascinating evening.
Presenter: Jasper Morris MW, Berry Brothers and Club Vice-President
Thursday 2 March: Social evening – Joie de Vivre, Summertown Wine Cafe
Monday 24 April: Wines from Austria
FWW Wines (UK) Ltd imports fine wines to the UK from countries including Austria, Burgundy, Languedoc, Portugal and New Zealand. Their eclectic range has developed by happy accident through experience of various aspects of the wine trade and they are in many cases exclusive agents for those wines. Austria is a particular strength of the company as Lance Foyster MW was hugely impressed by the fabulous range and quality of the wines after his first visit in 1988. The country has had an undeservedly low profile for many years so we are thrilled that Lance has agreed to show us a selection from his incredible Austrian portfolio which will not only include Riesling and Grüner Veltliner for dry white, but also red and sweet styles.
Presenter: Lance Foyster MW, FWW Wine (UK) Ltd, Austrian wine specialist
Wednesday 24 May: Champagne
Presenter: Michael Palij MW, WineTraders (UK) Ltd. And Club President
Wednesday 14 June: Annual General Meeting and informal tasting
As is now becoming customary, members attending the AGM will be rewarded with a reasonably light-hearted tasting.
